The results of the month-long autopsy and analysis were disclosed on 8th October, after officials were tasked with looking into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of young mum and nurse Yang Xue, 28.

The report by the Henan Provincial Forensic Identification Center found that Ms Yang – mother to twin boys – died of a pulmonary embolism during a secret operation at the Wanhe Plastic Surgery Clinic in Nanyang, in Central China’s Henan Province, on 18th August.

A fat embolism, which likely formed during surgery, clogged a major artery in her lung, causing respiratory failure and ultimately death, the report said.

Family members, including Ms Yang’s husband and mother, claimed they were completely unaware of the surgery.

Ms Yang had been to the clinic for a breast enlargement surgery behind her husband’s back two months earlier and returned for a corrective operation without telling him.

The medical report was sent to the Nanyang Medical Association for further analysis two weeks ago, with a conclusion expected within 60 days.

Ms Yang’s spouse, Mr Zhang, said the family planned to press formal criminal charges against the clinic if the medical association finds any wrongdoing.

Nanyang officials, who shut the clinic the day after the incident, have questioned two doctors and a nurse involved in Ms Yang’s operation.

However, they reported that the duty anaesthesiologist on the day had not been formally registered to practice at the clinic.

The business is expected to face separate punishment for the offence.
