This newly-married young mum has died after contracting COVID-19 without ever seeing her baby who was born as she fought for life in hospital.

Duygu Abaci Arslan, 25, only recently married her husband and was planning the new arrival of their baby in the north-eastern Turkish city of Amasya when she was taken ill.

She was six months pregnant when she started to feel unwell and then tests at the hospital confirmed that she was suffering from COVID-19.

She was admitted to the Amasya University Hospital where her condition continued to worsen, and doctors made a decision to remove the baby by Caesarean section.

She had already slipped into a coma when this happened and the baby boy was born, her first child.

Her condition continued to worsen and the decision was made to transfer her to larger hospital in the city of Corum. However, despite all the interventions made, she could not be saved.

Arslan, whose death devastated her family and friends, was buried in Amasya on 23rd February.

The baby boy named Yamac was discharged after his treatment in the intensive care unit.

According to medics, the baby appears to be doing well and is now being cared for by his father and family.
