Young Girl Nearly Drowns As Hair Trapped In Surf Ride At Colombian Theme Park

This is the moment a young girl’s hair gets trapped in a water attraction at a Colombian theme park before staff members reportedly cut her locks to prevent her from drowning.

The incident was filmed at the ‘Surf Wave’ ride in Afterland, a theme park in the El Tesoro Shopping Park in the Colombian city of Medellin on 13th March.

In the footage, posted by the girl’s mother Jennifer Betancur, the girl is seen surfing down the ride before being swept by the gushing water to the top corner, where she apparently gets trapped and has difficulty breathing.

The girl is seen wearing her hair down when the park rules reportedly prohibit it.

Her mother claimed the shopping centre’s theme park did not have appropriate security measures in place to protect her daughter or other children.

Betancur said workers had to cut her daughter’s hair to eventually free her and prevent her from drowning.

She said on Facebook: “We experienced a terrifying episode of great anguish when my daughter became trapped by an attraction in this place.

“Her head, arm, hair, and lips were sucked in the ride and as there was no way of turning off the machine, she was drowning in the large amount of water.

“I am letting you know about this experience so you do not go. Please, it is not a safe place, they did not provide us with any kind of medical assistance. There wasn’t even a nurse, nothing. Don’t put your children’s lives at risk.”

Meanwhile, the shopping centre issued a statement to confirm that it is investigating the incident as well as the security protocols in place by the company that provides such services.
