A young Japanese boy had his mind blown when he opened the fridge to find that his dad had converted the vegetable drawer into a fish tank with a living specimen swimming around to keep it fresh.

The bizarre images of the makeshift fish tank were posted online by Twitter user ‘mebaruazi’ from the city of Nagano, in central Japan’s Chubu Region as his location.

In the photos, the bottom shelf of the sparsely filled fridge can be seen full of water and a close-up shows a live fish swimming inside.

User ‘mebaruazi’ explained that he had opened the family’s spare fridge and spotted the fish swimming around.

He says he then called for his father who told him he had been keeping the fish he had caught in a mountain river in the fridge for over a week.

The dad had reportedly kept three fish in the improvised fish tank but had eaten the other two. It is unclear if he was keeping them extra fresh to make sushi.

‘Mebaruazi’ described the fish as “delicious” in one comment on the photos.

One netizen wrote “geniuses like this think up the next big inventions of tomorrow” while others wondered how the inside of the fridge would smell with the live fish in there.
