A hapless motorcycle mugger fled empty-handed after tripping over his own bike and dropping his loot in a botched street robbery.

The biker was trying to snatch a phone from a woman standing outside a health clinic in Teresina, Piaui state, Brazil, on 29th May.

But hilarious footage shows how he bungled the robbery.

In the video, the victim is seen standing on a ramp outside the clinic apparently talking with another woman in a white SUV.

Then the suspect pulls up on his motorbike and stops next to the victim before trying to snatch her phone from her hand.

As she refuses to let go, the victim drags the man off his bike which then falls on top of him.

The thief then drops two objects, apparently mobile phones, on the ground before slipping down the ramp and tripping over his bike.

The would-be robber desperately tries to lift his bike, which has apparently stalled.

But even when he gets it upright, he can’t start the engine and is finally seen running down the road while pushing the vehicle.

It is unclear if the local authorities are investigating the incident.
