A man, accused of leaving a woman dead after stabbing her in front of her apartment block, then calmly tucked a plate of sausage and chips in a cafe, it has emerged.
Suspect Shadi Barham, 28, lived in the same apartment block as his victim, a Ukrainian refugee named only as Alina, 21, in German media.
The pair were both residents in a complex for asylum seekers in the Alpine ski town Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria in southern Germany.
But when he saw her leaving for her job as a cleaner on 25th October, Jordanian national Barham stabbed her, injuring her critically.
Astonishingly, he then jumped on his bicycle and headed off to his favourite cafe for a fry-up.
Alina was found unconscious sometime later and was rushed to hospital by paramedics where she is said to be in critical condition.
Officers only found the knifeman when the owner of the Alpspitz restaurant Andrew Syme, 51, recognised the suspect through photos shared by the police.
Barham had reportedly ordered sausages and chips shortly after the vicious stabbing for EUR 9.2 (GBP 7.9).
He then came back for another round of the same meal in the afternoon.
Syme said: “I noticed him because of the strange order so early in the morning.
“It was funny, but we didn’t think anything more.”
But Barham was reportedly still circling around the restaurant after Syme finished his shift.
He said: “When I recognized him later on the internet, I obviously informed the police.”
Officers who responded to the call found the suspect in a storage room full of blankets.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.
Andrew Syme said: “We are in shock. When you imagine that he almost killed a woman and then sits calmly in our dining room”.
Police have not commented on the motive for the attack.
The investigation continues.
