These images show a storm blowing off a mosque’s minaret tower before it lands on top of a vehicle below and onlookers flee in terror with some netizens apparently seeing the incident as an act of God.

The tower collapse took place in the heart of the town of Nazilli in the south-western Turkish province of Aydin, when a strong storm battered the area on Tuesday 12th October.

The footage shows a storm hitting the town and as the cameraperson pans to a large mosque, the wind appears to blow the tip of the building’s minaret off.

The structure falls and reportedly hits a van where a man is selling his wares as people can be seen fleeing in terror.

A minaret is a type of tower on a mosque from which the faithful are called to prayer.

The video was taken by a passerby who caught the incident on camera and it shows the moment the minaret was blown off with at least two people below fleeing in terror.

Another video shot from a greater distance shows the tip of the minaret breaking away from its body and hanging for a moment before it drops to the ground below.

Describing the terrifying incident, Mehmet Dikses, 77, whose vehicle was damaged by the minaret, said: “I have been selling trousers in my parked vehicle in the same spot for many years. Today the unexpected happened. I saw the minaret collapse towards us. We escaped and ran for our lives. If we did not escape, the minaret would have collapsed on our heads.”

It is currently unclear if the incident caused any property damage and if anyone was injured.

Some netizens seemed to believe that the collapse was caused by the wrath of God with ‘Kadem Kara’ commenting: “Allah tore down his own house with one blow. What a blow he has though!”
