This is the explosive moment two men go toe to toe with a bizarre Harry Potter-style duel using live fireworks.

Phone video footage of the stand-off in Ulyanovsk, in western Russia, shows the pair taking potshots at each other with aerial bombshell-style fireworks.

As they dodged around an apartment estate courtyard the combatants blasted away at each other holding the fireworks in their hands like pistols.

In the fading light, they looked just like an outtake from one of the spectacular magic wand duels in the Harry Potter movies.

But the real-life powerful fireworks can shoot explosive capsules a hundred feet into the air before exploding and causing horrific injuries.

Local media reports that the footage ended before either man scored a hit on the other.

Eyewitnesses said the pair were “having fun” in the courtyard next to parked cars while ignoring the obvious dangers.

Some said they seemed like children playing Harry Potter-style wizards.

The footage emerged after Russian safety officials urged people not to use leftover New Year fireworks for crazy stunts.

Ministry of Emergencies officials had previously issued a warning that setting off fireworks near residential buildings is banned.
