Victim Vanessa Damasceno, 29 – Camaragibe, Pernambuco State, Brazil – was barefoot when she was hit by a massive electric shock on Saturday, 11th March.

She was home with her two-year-old son when she was hit by the huge freak power surge, which killed her instantly.

Her three-year-old son had been out shopping with his father.

Vanessa’s mother Luciene Goncalves said: “She had the habit of diluting powdered soap with bleach in a small pot and pouring it on her clothes when the machine was full.

“I don’t know if she took the electric shock and fell when she was going to put the soap, but I know it came from the washing machine.”

Luciene then continued: “When the husband came back about 20 minutes later and opened [the door], the younger boy ran out, calling out to him.

“They were still hit by electricity when they touched the machine, but they were wearing shoes.”

Vanessa’s husband immediately called paramedics, but they could only declare her dead and she was buried at Santo Amaro Cemetery, Recife, on Monday, 13th March.

Luciene told local media: “The last 15 days I had with her were the best.

“We traveled. I managed to take her to a restaurant. She liked the beef jerky there.”
