This is the moment a woman kicks and shoves staff at a shopping centre before being dragged away by the police after she refuses to wear a surgical mask during the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.

The incident took place at Hunter Plaza in the city of Guiyang, capital of south-western China’s Guizhou Province, on 1st February.

According to local police, the woman identified only as Ms Lu, 29, tried to force her way into the shopping centre at 4:30pm local time.

She was stopped by staff at the entrance of the shopping complex, and was asked to comply with new regulations, which make it mandatory for all citizens to wear surgical masks in crowded public spaces.

This comes as the death toll of the pneumonia-like coronavirus outbreak reaches 362, all but one of which have been recorded in mainland China, where there are also more than 17,200 confirmed cases.

Staff at Hunter Plaza can be heard pleading with the female shopper to “cooperate” and wear a mask, but she kicks one of the employers and tries to barge her way into the premises, the video shows.

She is dragged away by uniformed police officers as the video ends.

Authorities with Danan Police Station said Ms Lu was taken to a hospital for a test and not found to have been suffering from any of the symptoms linked to the mysterious respiratory disease.

She was given eight days of administrative detention on public order charges, the police said.
