According to reports, the woman had been to visit the county’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention, where officials at the government office had checked her for a possible rabies infection and then referred her to a larger hospital.

The middle-aged woman, whose name has not been given, was reportedly bitten by a dog some 10 days earlier, and, having not had any rabies shots in the past, believed she may have been infected.

Fearing the worst, the woman is thought to have had a nervous breakdown, leading to her unusual actions caught on camera by witnesses, reports said.

In the footage, the woman can be seen barking like a dog and crawling into a road full of cars and other vehicles.

She is eventually surrounded by uniformed police officers who restrain her.

Reports said she has since been cleared of rabies by Shaoyang Central Hospital following a thorough check.

Despite her arrest, she is not expected to be charged for the minor public order incident.
