Woman Turned Gun Cops On Grandson Because She Didn’t Recognise Car

A 24-year-old man was gunned down by police as he slept in a parked car outside his grandmother’s house after she had reported a mysterious stranger.

Victim Anthony Maclin had been fast asleep in the car in Indianapolis, Indiana State, USA when his gran called police.

She had not recognised the vehicle as her grandson’s, as it was a rental vehicle registered in Florida.

Officers surrounded the still-running vehicle and spotted a Glock 9mm handgun on Maclin’s lap.

But when they woke him by banging on the front passenger window, claim police, he reached for the gun and was shot at point-blank range by the officers.

Bodycam footage of the shooting on 31st December shows how police fired off more than 30 rounds at Maclin.

It is impossible to prove from the footage, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) admits, whether he was reaching for the gun or not.

During the chilling footage, one officer is heard saying: “All right, let’s wake him up… If he draws on that gun or does anything, yell.”

Astonishingly, he survived the shooting and even obeyed police orders to get out of the car.

One officer is heard shouting: “Get on the f*cking ground.”

Police are seen rolling the critically-injured man on his face while they snap handcuffs on his wrists.

An IMPD statement says: “He was detained, and IMPD officers then provided medical aid until paramedics arrived.”

As officers try to stem the flow of blood from Maclin’s wounds in the video, one is heard saying: “F*cking sh*t.”

It was only when the young man was outside the vehicle on the ground that Maclin’s horrified gran realised she had turned the police on her own grandson.

She said: “I’m so sorry, baby”.

She also asked why he did not come in the house, and he told her he had not wanted to wake anyone up.

Maclin’s lawyer has since said his client has undergone six operations in just 17 days and will be unable to work for at least three months.

Maclin said on 6th February: “I am in a lot of pain. I mean a lot of pain. It’s hard to sleep. It’s hard to eat certain foods. My breathing is bad.

“Hopefully, I will recover and have a good recovery. I am just not sure how things will be.”

His grandmother said: “I never would have expected anything like that. The gunshots, it was just so many, so many.”

Attorney Stephen Wagner said of the police footage in a statement on 7th February: “You never hear an officer yell, ‘Drop the gun!’

“When Anthony turns toward the officers and appears to raise his right arm slightly – when one officer was commanding him to raise his hands – you do not see a gun in his right hand.”

He added that the officers “needlessly and recklessly shot a man who was doing nothing wrong”.
