This is the moment a woman’s BMW stops in a motorway fast lane after running out of petrol and she uses a blanket as a warning before a hapless motorist drives straight into the makeshift roadblock.

The unnamed BMW owner was travelling on the Hangzhou-Pudong Expressway over the city of Jiaxing, which is in East China’s Zhejiang Province, when her saloon engine cut off from a lack of fuel.

Traffic camera footage shows the motorist and her female passenger standing next to the broken-down car in the fast lane as numerous vehicles swerve dangerously around them on 19th November.

According to local police, traffic monitors Tang Qinghua and Zhang Hengfeng noticed the two women standing near the central reservation of the motorway and immediately dispatched a tow vehicle and alerted approaching drivers with matrix signs.

They then contacted the motorist who was told to set up her emergency triangle and move to the hard shoulder.

But the woman later claimed she fumbled around her boot and could not remove the triangle, which was stuck beneath other heavy objects.

She grabbed a packed blanket instead and put it rough 30 feet behind her car before running across the busy roadway onto the emergency lane.

The footage shows a saloon driver running over her blanket shortly after and narrowly avoiding a rear-end collision before swerving away.

The authorities said the woman did not check her fuel gauge before setting off and also “lacked road safety knowledge” after her BMW broke down.

Fortunately, she and her passenger were not harmed, and no accidents resulted from the stunt.

The authorities did not say whether she would be fined for her unconventional use of the blanket.
