This is the woman who reports say deliberately jumped down a well after an argument with her neighbour but got stuck in the narrow passage and had to be rescued.

The unnamed woman from the town of Huangwei, which is in Si County in Anhui Province in East China, went missing for several hours before her family members found her 3 metres (10 feet) down the borehole in the middle of their field.

With no means of rescuing her, her family members called the local fire service which dispatched a vehicle to the scene.

However, firefighters said the woman was “uncooperative” and did not wish to be helped out of the well, which had an opening just 50 centimetres (20 inches) wide.

One rescuer was sent head first down the borewell three times in a bid to fasten a rope around the woman’s body, but the fire service was forced to try a different strategy when that failed.

The woman was reportedly ‘too fat’ and left no room in the concrete borehole for rescuers to manoeuvre her out, according to local media.

Rescue workers dropped an oxygen tank down the well to ensure the woman would not suffocate to death in the narrow space.

They then employed an excavator and began digging up the earth around the borehole, which they eventually broke apart piece by piece in order to reach the woman’s position underground.

The authorities said she was rescued about 10 minutes later.

She suffered no serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Her family members said she deliberately jumped into the well following an argument with her neighbour.
