This is the moment a distracted woman on her phone walks straight off the platform and onto the tracks just as a tube approaches with onlookers frantically signalling for the driver to stop.

The incident was filmed at the Petrovsko-Razumovskaya metro station in the western Russian capital Moscow and the video has been widely circulated on social media.

In the footage, several commuters are seen arriving on the platform just as a woman in a hat enters the frame.

Engrossed on her phone, the woman walks straight off the platform without raising her head and falls onto the tracks.

She appears to have hurt herself and seems unable to get to her feet just as an onrushing tube approaches the station.

Fearing that the woman may be crushed by the oncoming train, onlookers frantically wave at the tube driver to stop.

Fortunately, the driver notices and stops the vehicle while commuters pull the woman up onto the pavement.

The woman’s identity and current condition are currently unknown.

Netizen ‘Alexey Kamay’ said: “She is such an idiot, bravo to everyone else. Well done.”

‘Vyacheslav Mishin’ commented: “Lucky she did not touch the electric rail otherwise there would be a pile of ash there.”

‘Tati Stati’ wrote: “Well done to the driver and people around who started waving as soon as she fell. If not for them, it could have gone unnoticed.”
