This is the moment a woman stands in front of burglars making a getaway on a scooter and is run over.

The heroic Xue Huirong, 43, is now hospitalised and faces medical bills exceeding 100,000 RMB (11,355 GBP) for tearing the ligaments in her knees in the process.

CCTV images from the Fuxiyuan Residential District, which is in Yuncheng City in North China’s Shanxi Province, show residents trying to stop the two crooks who had been caught red-handed while robbing a home.

The two suspects managed to make it to their scooter and would have made a clean getaway had Xue, 43, not stood in the way of their escape.

The footage shows other people dodging the vehicle, but Xue stands in its path and appears to spread her arms and legs in a bid to block them.

The scooter then crashes head on into Xue, sending her flying into a parked car, but both burglars fall off in the process.

One of the crooks gets up and runs away, while the second is pinned to the ground by Xue’s neighbour Wang Jianmin, whose home had been burgled.

“I heard someone shout: Stop those thieves!’, so I turned around, opened my arms and stood in their way,” Xue said from her hospital bed at Yuncheng Central Hospital.

Members of the public, including many of her friends and neighbours, have donated funds towards her treatment.

It is unclear whether Yuncheng police have caught the burglar who got away.
