This is the moment a woman scrambles to climb out of a rhino enclosure at the zoo as one of the huge animals watches just a few feet away after she jumped in to retrieve her mobile phone.

The incident took place in the La Pastora Ecological Park in the municipality of Guadalupe in the state of Nuevo Leon in northern Mexico.

Local media report the woman, who has not been named but is around 40 years old, dropped her phone and it fell into the rhino enclosure.

Reports state she did not inform any of the zoo workers and ignored signs warning visitors not to enter the enclosures before dropping into to retrieve her device.

In the video filmed by an onlooker, the woman can be seen working to try and climb the steep walls of the small moat surrounding the enclosure as a huge rhino watches on just a few feet away.

The woman managed to escape unharmed but the management of the zoo have condemned the woman’ behaviour.

They will not file legal proceedings against her but have reportedly banned her from visiting the park in the future.

The zoo management said the rhino which can be seen in the video has a calm temperament.

Netizen ‘Javier Reyes’ commented: “Sometimes, stupidity goes with luck.”

And ‘Maca Garcia Azcunaga’ added: “What an irresponsible person!”
