A young woman who went to the dentist while suffering stomach pains was shocked when she suddenly gave birth in the dentist’s chair.

Jessica Aaldering, 23, had no idea she was pregnant when she was walking past the practice of dentist Rene Klaassen in the town of Velp in the province Gelderland in the Netherlands, and suddenly started to get stomach pains.

She said she had just taken her son to the child centre when the pain started, and she was barely able to stand.

She said: “It was slippery and I had fallen over a short while before so I assumed the pain was from that.”

She was outside the dental surgery at the time, and a passing police officers believed she was in difficulty and helped her inside the surgery where it was discovered she was about to have a baby.

Police officers Rob van Duuren and Milan van der Heijden said that staff members provided a treatment room, and a few minutes later the baby was born.

Police officer Van Duuren, 39, said he barely had time to put his gloves on when the baby was born and he just managed to catch it, but was unable to prevent the umbilical cord from tearing.

The next drama was when he realised the baby was not breathing, and had not opened his eyes or made a sound.

He said he started massaging the infant, and was relieved when it suddenly started moving and breathing.

She said: “It all happened so quickly, I barely had time to sit in the dentist chair.”
