These images show a magnet stuck to this woman’s back after she went under the knife for a slipped disc six years ago and medics allegedly left a surgical implement inside her by mistake causing her agony.

Mum-of-two Sevgi Sullerli underwent surgery to repair slipped discs on her lower back at an unnamed private hospital in the Denizli province of Turkey, on 25th of June 2013.

The operation was designed to put an end to her back pain but instead her symptoms worsened and within a year she started having difficulties standing up for a long time and was unable to take care of her kids due to the pain.

Speaking about her condition following the op, she told local media : “I couldn’t take proper care of my children due to the pain. I moved to my mother’s house and she started taking care of me. I went to the same hospital they did an X-ray to me but they told me that the pain was due to the stitches.”

However, things took a bizarre twist after she watched a TV report about patients who accidentally have surgical items left inside them on the operating table.

Upon seeing the clip, she began to question some of the bizarre happenings in her own life since the operation.

Sullerli added: “When I was passing through the metal detectors even though I didn’t have any metal object on me they were beeping.

“I came back one day home, took a magnet and put it on my back. I realised the magnet stood there. I was confused. Then I went back to the hospital where I had the surgery. I told my doctor that I had a metal item in my back and he admitted it was true.”

The revelation came after she visited the University Medicine Faculty’s Forensic Medicine department where two medics found a 1-centimetre long metal item in her lower back and prepared a report for the case.

Sullerli added: “They told me it could be a piece of scalpel or a needle, most probably a scalpel piece. I will seek for justice through legal procedures.”

She then decided to take a legal case against the hospital where the initial surgery took place and against Prof. Dr Bayram C., the medic who she claims oversaw the allegedly ill-fated operation.

She added: “Upon this, together with my lawyer on 18th July 2019 I filed a criminal complaint against the doctor and the hospital at the public prosecution.”

She is now set to undergo surgery for the removal of the metal item.

Prof. Dr Bayram C., who allegedly oversaw the operation, has denied any wrongdoing.

In a statement he said: “The patient met me only once and I treated her. Later she didn’t have contact with me. I didn’t conduct the surgery. A colleague of mine did, for this reason it will be wrong to make any comments for the case.”
