When officials opened the passenger’s bag they found seven kilos of rotten cow skin covered in maggots.

Officials discovered the disgusting packages after they noticed a foul smell coming from the bags.

They found the cow skin in two plastic bags inside the bag.

Fabian Pflanz, from the Customs Office in Dusseldorf: “Every day we see passengers bringing banned meat into Germany via third countries, but someone smuggling seven kilos of rotten skin is also a premiere for us.”

The woman had claimed the skin was a delicacy, which she enjoys eating together with the family.

The skin was confiscated by officials and will be destroyed.

The passenger will now have to pay the costs of having the meat destroyed.
