A woman has been arrested for hiring hitmen to kill her boyfriend after she discovered he was allegedly having a three-way incestuous relationship with his own daughter and her boyfriend.

Maria Aparecida Barroso, 36, was arrested in the Brazilian town of Caninde on Monday, 27th September for her alleged role in the attempted murder of her boyfriend and his daughter.

Jaelson Oliveira, 39, and his 20-year-old daughter, who is from a previous relationship and whose name was not reported, were shot on their doorstep, but both survived.

The young woman’s 26-year-old boyfriend, whose name was not reported, was allegedly an intermediary in the crime, according to local media reports.

The news site G1 reports that the young man had been involved in a three-way relationship with his girlfriend and her dad.

However, the young man allegedly became jealous when his girlfriend and her dad started to maintain sexual relations without him, and he subsequently recounted the case to Barroso.

Barroso later told the police she had tried to separate from Oliveira after finding out about the incestuous relationship, but he allegedly threatened her, prompting her to even consider suicide.

She then resolved to pay Oliveira’s son-in-law BRL 3,000 (GBP 408) to contract two hitmen to kill Oliveira, with the murder attempt taking place on 29th June.

Although the hitmen had only been contracted to kill Oliveira, they ended up shooting his daughter as well.

A few hours after the crime, the police apprehended a man and a 17-year-old boy, whose identities were not reported, for attempted murder. A revolver was also seized.

Oliveira and his daughter were injured in the shooting and were taken to hospital. Oliveira’s daughter has been discharged from hospital. Her boyfriend has been arrested.

At the time of reporting, the police were still waiting for Oliveira to be discharged from hospital to question him.

According to the police, Barroso has confessed to masterminding the crime and is reportedly cooperating with the investigation. She is said to have expressed regret over her actions.

At the time of reporting, Barroso and Oliveira’s son-in-law remained in preventive custody as the investigation, led by police chief Daniel Aragao, continues.
