A young woman is on trial for shooting her 73-year-old love rival for lavishing their shared man with gifts and sports cars in what prosecutors called an “incomprehensible love-triangle”.

The defendant, identified as 26-year-old Summer A., is accused of attempted murder after allegedly shooting her elderly love rival Grietje Wieringa twice in the municipality of Wielsbeke in the Belgian province of West Flanders on 10th February.

The two women were arguing over their shared lover Imraan A., 32.

Imraan A., who reportedly enjoyed luxury watches, sports cars and women, started working as the wealthy OAP’s gardener 12 years ago.

Handsome and well-built, the pair hit it off despite their age gap, and they soon started a romantic relationship, according to the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

Imraan became Wieringa’s ‘toyboy’ and he took good care of her while she lavished him with gifts and cars.

Het Nieuwsblad said that Summer A. came into the handsome gardener’s life three years ago, along with a string of other women. However, the 26-year-old defendant, who comes from the municipality of Temse, and Imraan soon began spending more time together.

According to prosecutors, a “love-triangle developed which was always destined to blow up”.

Within time, Summer reportedly became jealous of her lover’s relationship with Wieringa and the financial benefits she was able to afford him.

On the fateful day, a row broke out between the three and Summer reportedly went to the kitchen and returned wearing white gloves and holding a gun.

She said “is this what you want?” before shooting the OAP twice without hesitation, according to prosecutors.

Wieringa fell to the ground before receiving life-saving treatment in hospital.

The prosecution team is calling for a 10-year prison sentence for attempted murder.

Wieringa was unable to attend the trial as she is still recovering from her injuries, but is said to be doing well.

Imraan A. was held in custody for a while before the authorities dropped charges.

Summer A. is expected to be sentenced next month.
