This is the moment wild boar are filmed walking through the deserted streets of Madrid during the city’s coronavirus lockdown.

Several wild boars were recorded in different neighbourhoods in the north of the Spanish capital of Madrid at night during the city’s strict coronavirus lockdown.

The first clip shows a wild boar sniffing in some bushes in the middle of a roundabout before walking across a deserted street. Twitter user ‘VayekanadeAlba’ who shared the clip wrote: “I can’t believe it, a boar in the centre of Madrid half an hour ago.”

A second clip shows another boar appearing from between two cars before strolling down the street past the man recording from a van.

The man recording is heard saying: “He is big, what an animal!”

Another neighbour is heard saying: “Be careful he is going there, careful it is running”

Reports said the animals are becoming more common in the Spanish capital due to the abandonment of some farming land and the lack of predators, particularly in the municipalities of Las Rozas, Alcobendas and San Sebastian de Los Reyes in the north of the capital.

Local media report the local government has authorised their capture as there are around 40,000 specimens registered by the city council’s Environment Department.

According to a recent report into road safety and collisions with animals by the local insurance company Centro de Estudios Ponle Freno-AXA, traffic accidents which saw vehicles crashing into boars have increased by 47 percent in the last two years.
