This is the incredible moment a herd of wild horses runs around a deserted ski resort during COVID-19 lockdown.

The incident was filmed by resident Regina Jimenez Caballero at the Sierra Nevada ski resort near the city of Granada in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia.

Jimenez Caballero, who is a ski resort camerawoman but is currently not working due to the COVID-19 lockdown, was reportedly walking her dog in the El Rio area when she saw the wild horses running on the pistes.

She told Newsflash: “It is not at all normal to see horses running around the ski resort.”

Jimenez Caballero was on her way to the pharmacy with her dog when she came across the incredible scene. She said it occurred at a time of day when the resort is normally full of skiers.

She told Newsflash that a growing number of wild animals are venturing into built-up areas and she provided footage of mountain goats crossing a road in the same area that was filmed last week.

The Sierra Nevada ski resort closed its doors over a month ago after the Spanish government enforced strict lockdown measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The resort has confirmed that it will not resume operations until the next winter season.

According to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University, Spain has registered 177,633 cases of COVID-19 and 18,579 related deaths.
