Wife Of Dangerous Cartel Leader Arrested In Raid

Four members of a dangerous drug cartel born after a division in the Jalisco New Generation Cartel have been arrested during a police operation that also saw the seizure of the wife of the gang leader.

The General Attorney’s Office of the state of Guanajuato has confirmed that four members of the Cartel Santa Rosa de Lima were arrested in the city of Celaya in the State of Guanajuato in the centre of Mexico.

Reports claim local authorities arrested the wife of the leader of the Cartel Santa Rosa de Lima Jose Antonio Yepez Ortiz, aka ‘el Marro’, who is usually just named Karina.

Three more people were also reportedly arrested named only as Cesar, Alfonso and Serafina.

The arrests took place during a police operation in a house in Celaya where the agents also found two 9 mm calibre guns, an AK-47 rifle and a fourth 270 calibre rifle.

The weapons were found alongside some ammunition, mechanical explosive devices, three vehicles, four motorised quad bikes, and 69,000 MXN (2,804 GBP) in cash, according to local media.

Reports claim that the Cartel Santa Rosa de Lima was founded in 2017 after a division inside the CJNG.

The gang specialised in petrol trafficking and it has reportedly grown, turning into one of the major rivals for the CJNG for the control over the state of Guanajuato.

According to the commissioner of Citizen Security of Guanajuato, Sophia Huett Lopez, Yepez Ortiz has changed his residence several times to hide from the police.
