The wife of a legendary Spanish TV and music producer has been arrested on allegations she tried to kill him in order to inherit his multimillion fortune.

Angela Dobrowolski, 37, is being investigated by police in Barcelona, in Catalonia, over the attempted murder of her diabetic husband, 74-year-old Josep Maria Mainat, by poisoning him with an overdose of insulin as he slept, local newspaper La Vanguardia reported.

Mainat was a member of the popular band La Trinca and music producer of Gestmusic, as well as over two dozen writing, acting and production credits for TV and film.

The couple share two children, Jana and Joan Ramon, eight and four years old respectively and have been married since 2011.

Dobrowolski was arrested by Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police) after investigators found evidence that she had injected her husband with insulin while he was sleeping, triggering a hypoglycemic shock and causing him to slip into a coma on the night of 22nd June.

Secret security cameras installed by Mainat show her entering his room 13 times during the night, ABC Catalonia reports.

She then left the country for three weeks immediately after the incident.

Dobrowolski, who is a sixth-year trainee doctor, argued that the doses she administered contained vitamins and a substance to lose weight and that this does not cause sugar to be ingested.

Local newspaper El Mundo reported that the pair has been separated since January and she had found out that Mainat had filed for divorce, which would cut her out of an inheritance.

Dobrowolski allegedly waited 20 minutes after delivering the dose before calling an ambulance, at which point Mainat was already comatose.

Luckily the victim managed to recover after a few days in hospital.

His son Pol Mainat, whom he had with his ex-wife Rosa Maria Sarda who died of cancer on 11th June, pressed charges against his stepmother over the incident.

Dobrowolski was arrested in August and was charged with attempted murder before being released on bail.

She has denied the charges against her in court and has since stayed at the producer’s house intermittently to be with their two children.

Mainat has said in a TV interview that he supports the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
