A plainclothes cop turned the tables on armed crooks trying to take his van when he pulled out his gun and shot one of them dead.
CCTV footage of the bungled carjacking shows the pair running up to the officer demanding he hands over the keys to his white Fiat Forino.
But the cop – who was on duty guarding the family of a murder victim in San Martin, Argentina – calmly reaches into the vehicle and pulls out his pistol.
As the pair try to flee, the video – recorded on 23rd May – shows one of them collapsing to the ground as the officer opens fire.
The officer, a Buenos Aires cop with the rank of captain, has not been named.
According to reports, the suspect died on the spot while his accomplice managed to escape on foot and is still at large.
The emergency services arrived at the scene and confirmed the suspect’s death.
Meanwhile, the police started their investigation into the shooting.
The police captain was reportedly shot in the right leg during the confrontation and was taken to the Interzonal ‘Eva Peron’ General Hospital in a stable condition.
The investigation continues.
