A woman from Norway has captured the moment when a herd of killer whales swam by her side while she was kayaking in the open sea.

Wedding photographer Karianne Klovning, 24, who lives and studies in the city of Bergen, Norway, said she was filled with adrenaline when she saw the magnificent animals surrounding her.

Captivated by the moment, the then kayaking tour guide stayed in their company for approximately half an hour before she had to head back to work.

But she made sure not to leave without capturing the sight on camera. The video was recorded in the Svolvaer area in the Lofoten archipelago in June 2021.

Karianne said in an exclusive interview with Newsflash: “It felt great as it was an absolute dream come true to me.

“I wasn’t scared at all and I was just filled with adrenaline and excitement.

“There were so many and they just kept coming to the surface over and over, and I just couldn’t stop smiling!

“Eventually I had to leave because I had to get back to work, but I got to stay with them for probably half an hour, which was so, so incredible.”

The 24-year-old student then explained that it was the first ever time she had come across a heard of orcas ever since she started kayaking seven years ago.

She added: “I’ve seen a couple of whales from a distance previously, but never like this and have not again since then.”

But Karianne revealed that she was a bit stunned to receive a bunch of negative remarks in the comment section.

She said: “Some have called me ‘naive’ and ‘stupid’ in the comment sections for not being cautious around them as they are ‘called killer whales for a reason’.

“But my colleagues were closeby in a rib boat and there were also other people there with their small boats wanting to see the orcas.

“So perhaps that’s why I felt so safe, I would maybe feel more scared if I was all alone!”

Karianne reportedly started her career in photography at the age of 11, when she began filming parodies along with a couple of friends.

She would then upload them to YouTube, which earned her enough money to buy her first DSLR camera.

Karianne said: “Then when I was 15, I got my first wedding assignment when my cousin got married.

“I was very lucky with this and here my early career as a wedding photographer started.

“Without them I don’t think I would be where I am today, living my dream!”
