Wealthy Businessman Arrested For Hiring Hitman To Shoot Dead His Wifes Soldier Lover

The wealthy owner of a supermarket chain has been named by the police as the man who paid a hitman to kill an army sergeant who was allegedly having an affair with his wife.

Lucas Ramon Silva Guimaraes, 29, was shot dead inside a cafe in the Brazilian city of Manaus on the night of 1st September.

Shocked staff later told the police how a man entered the establishment and shot the victim three times in the head before fleeing the scene on a motorbike.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a wife who was four months pregnant and a young son.

For over a fortnight, the crime had remained a mystery, with police noting that the motorcycle’s licence plate had been tampered with.

However, new information that emerged on Monday, 20th September suggests Lucas was killed in revenge for an affair he had allegedly been having with the wife of a local businessman.

The suspect has been named as Joabson Agostinho Gomes, who owns a supermarket chain in Manaus, and his wife has been named as Jordana Azevedo Freire.

Lucas met Jordana in December last year when the soldier, who was also a businessman in his own right, began to provide graphic services for Joabson’s business.

Lucas was reportedly ready to end the business relationship, citing Joabson’s rude treatment of him, when Jordana intervened and started dealing with Lucas directly, and a love affair ensued.

According to the police, not only had Lucas and Jordana been having an extramarital affair, but Jordana had embezzled money from her husband’s business to give to her lover as a gift.

According to a report in O Liberal, Lucas’ widow, Elza Goncalves, told the police she had seen her husband several times with cash-stuffed envelopes bearing the logo of the supermarket chain.

She told the police she confronted her husband when she learnt of the affair and confirmed she knew of the money his lover had given him.

According to the police, Joabson had threatened Lucas with death, prompting him to return the money totalling BRL 200,000 (GBP 27,840), believing he would be out of harm’s way if he did so.

The soldier even ended up buying a gun and hiring a private security guard. However, it was not enough to prevent his violent demise inside the cafe he owned and had opened two months prior.

According to the police, after discovering the affair, Joabson physically attacked his wife. However, the two decided to remain together.

Jordana is also a suspect in the crime, as she allegedly knew it was going to happen and did nothing to prevent it.

The husband and wife were considered fugitives from justice, as they reportedly received leaked information about their imminent arrest on the night of Monday, 20th September, and fled.

However, they later handed themselves into a police station. Their lawyer has said they are innocent and that there had been a “misunderstanding”.
