WAVE SURGE: Hurricane Nicole Causes Rising Sea Levels in Florida’s Sunny Isles Beach

This is the moment huge waves driven by Hurricane Nicole wash ashore at Sunny Isles Beach in Florida threatening to wash away beach furniture and flood into the city.

The 25-year-old David Vergel shot the high waves on Wednesday night (9th November).

David confirmed to Newsflash that he filmed the video before Hurricane Nicole made landfall on Florida’s east coast where storms of this magnitude at this time of year are very unusual.

Until now, the sunshine state has actually been hit only twice by November hurricanes, once in 1935 and once in 1985.

The video also shows strong winds whipping the trees as the National Hurricane Centre revealed that it was a Category 2 hurricane and arrived with winds of 70 mph (170 kph) but was later downgraded to a tropical storm Alfred Sloan making landfall.

But a state of alert to remain in place with an evacuation order and heavy rains and storm surges like those seen here predicted.

It had earlier struck Grand Bahama Island with more force although the scale of the damage caused is at the moment not yet clear.

After Florida, the storm was expected to head onto Georgia and South Carolina.

Only a few weeks ago Hurricane Ian also hit Florida, leaving more than 100 people dead.
