Russia Shows Its Tanks Apparently Destroying Ukrainian Positions And Kit

These images purport to show Russian tanks apparently destroying Ukrainian positions and equipment.

The footage shows a Russian tank on a dirt road before images shot from a drone show at least two of them advancing on the battlefield.

The images then appear to show Ukrainian tanks being hit by the Russian armour in a pitched battle.

The drone footage shows the tanks exchanging fire on the battlefield at length, with smoke rising into the air, although it is hard to determine which, if any, vehicles were hit.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Tuesday, 11th October, along with a statement claiming that the images showed tank crews from the Southern Military District, adding: “The tankers, in cooperation with one of the motorised rifle units, were able to suppress the enemy’s firing points in the conditions of the massive use of anti-tank weapons by them.

“Guidance on targets, adjustment of fire and control of destruction is carried out from an unmanned aerial vehicle operating near the line of contact.

“Fire on the enemy was carried out during the movement. This increases the survivability of vehicles on the battlefield. The identified firing points were destroyed by the fire of tank guns. Shooting was carried out from automatic grenade launchers and anti-tank systems.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February in what the Kremlin is still calling a “special military operation”. Today marks the 230th day of the war.

US President Joe Biden said that the United States “strongly condemns” the Russian missile strikes on cities across Ukraine, saying that they demonstrate Putin’s “utter brutality” against Ukrainian citizens.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has said that the international community “has a responsibility” to make clear that Putin’s actions are “completely unacceptable”.

The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has also condemned the “horrific and indiscriminate” missile attacks, while Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, said she was “shocked and appalled”.

The attacks have widely been seen as revenge by Russian President Vladimir Putin after the Kerch Bridge linking Crimea to Russia was hit by a massive explosion on Saturday morning, with Putin accusing Ukraine of a “terrorist act”.

A spokesperson for the German government said that the G7 members will hold emergency talks today, Tuesday, along with President Zelensky, to discuss the latest wave of Russian attacks on Ukraine.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said his country and Russia would send joint military forces to Belarus’ western borders in response to what he labelled an aggravation of tension.
