Agents of the National Police managed to detain the suspect, who had a European Arrest and Surrender Order filed by the British authorities for attempted murder, on the island of Tenerife, in the south-western Spanish region of Canary Islands.

According to a police press release obtained by Newsflash, the arrested man is also wanted for crimes of GBH, against traffic safety and robbery and has appeared on the CrimeStoppers most wanted list, although his name has not been revealed.

The arrest reportedly took place at the exit of the Port of Colon de Adeje, in the south of the island, where he was intercepted aboard a moving vehicle.

The investigation which led to his arrest began last July when the National Crime Agency alerted the National Police that the fugitive could be in Spanish territory.

After several police efforts, the agents obtained indications that the fugitive was hidden in the south of Tenerife and that several compatriots could be covering for him.

Finally, the agents identified him aboard a moving vehicle which they managed to intercept and detain the suspect.

According to the police report, the man has been wanted since 2016, when several police officers stopped him after observing him in the driver’s seat of a vehicle inhaling nitrous oxide.

When he saw the police he fled, allegedly driving recklessly and at high speed through residential areas, hitting several vehicles – including a police vehicle – and other objects on the road.

When he got out, a chase began on foot, causing injuries to the police officers, with him strongly resisting arrest.

In addition, the investigation showed that the vehicle he was driving was listed as stolen and had bent license plates.

Later, in October 2019, after a fight in a pub with another individual, the man also fled in a stolen vehicle and ran over two people in a crowded pedestrian area, causing them serious injuries.

To avoid arrest for these events, he fled the United Kingdom using a passport with another identity.

There is no further information about whether the man will be deported directly to the United Kingdom.
