This adorable toddler fell into a pond and drowned next door to his German nursery school after wandering off while in their care, a court has heard.

A toddler who wandered away from a German nursery school drowned when he fell into a pond in a neighbouring property, a court has heard.

The three-year-old identified only by his first name Ramzan was being looked after at the Rainbow nursery school in the town of Bad Breisig which is located in the German province of Rhineland-Palatinate.

His carers had no idea that he had managed to escape, and when they started looking for him they were shocked to find his tiny body lifeless in the nearby pond.

On the day he died, the court heard that there were 83 children at the nursery, and at 10:30 AM when they were supposed to be playing in the exercise room, they noticed that the little boy was missing.

One of the women working there, who has not been named, then joined in the search for the little boy, and 30 minutes later they contacted the police to join in the search. The boy’s father was also called, and together with the woman they had gone to the pond in the nearby property where they discovered the tiny body.

The woman tried to reanimate him, but without success.

Local officials decided that there was no clear indication that the manager of the clinic, identified only by her first name Lore S., 60, was guilty of manslaughter

However prosecutors and the family disagreed, and filed a case with the court where she rejected allegations that she had been negligent in her duty of care and in her actions.

In a statement by her lawyer at the opening of the court case he said: “From my point of view I am not responsible for Ramzan’s death.  I have neither violated my supervisory duties nor acted negligently.”

However, she added that since the death of the young boy nothing was the same and she found herself almost unable to work.

The boy’s mother identified only by her first name Kheda, 26, said she remains speechless to this day as to how such a tragedy could have happened, saying: “I trusted them with my child. How can nobody be responsible?”

At the heart of the current manslaughter trial is to attempt to discover how the boy could have managed to get out of the nursery school and whether the manager was to blame for the fact that he did.

Judge Guido Schmitz, 50, who is leading the case personally checked the security and said at the end: “The fact is we still don’t know.”

The dead boy’s father Mikail said: “I just want to know what really happened, not just for myself but also for the other children and their parents. We need to bring this case to completion. For two and a half years now, I hear my wife crying at night, and my other son still asks: “When will Ramzan come home?'”
