This is the gut-churning moment brave volunteers who assist underprivileged residents clean an elderly single man’s filthy cockroach-infested flat for him.

The clean-up mission, which involved stomping hundreds of cockroaches and creepy-crawlies, was bravely carried out by volunteers of the ‘Keeping Hope Alive’ organisation on Beach Road in the island city-state of Singapore.

The kindhearted residents call the group a “private initiative” that quickly grew into a “large community sharing a common goal for the love of humanity”.

‘Keeping Hope Alive’ members help underprivileged Singaporeans and work on improving their quality of life.

For the NGO, the main aim is “to keep hope alive for them”.

According to reports, volunteers entered the home of one middle-aged man who lived alone to clean up the property of the piles of rubbish strewn about the place, evidently attracting an infestation of unwanted creepy-crawlies.

One volunteer called the man’s home a “cockroach palace”.

In the footage, the volunteers, armed with face masks, rubber gloves and cleaning products, shriek and scream as they collect the rubbish piled up on the floor, disturbing nests of cockroaches that are even seen climbing the walls.

A video after the clean-up mission shows volunteers advising the grey-haired man how to use an old washing machine, although it was not mentioned if they donated the appliance to him.

Meanwhile, he is seen rummaging through bin bags of collected items to apparently find a plug.
