This is the viral moment a cute German Shepherd stops its owner from sitting on a cushion deliberately soaked by a mischievous pal and the pooch even moves the wet item away.

The video was filmed at an unspecified location in Japan and shared on Twitter by netizen ‘Iyashi No Time’ where it has been viewed over three million times.

In the viral clip, the cute dog is seen resting its head on its owner’s shoulder as she sits on a yellow cushion playing with her phone.

Seemingly in on the act, the woman stands up and a practical-joking pal sprays the cushion with water.

The clever dog appears to realise that something is amiss and pushes the friend’s hand away before covering the cushion with its body so that she cannot spray it anymore.

Then, when the woman tries to sit back down on the now-soaked cushion, the dog remains firm and refuses to allow its owner to get her bum wet.

The protective German Shepherd even looks up at her with appealing eyes.

In the end, the smart pooch grabs the cushion in its jaws and takes it away from its owner to prevent her from falling victim to the practical joke.

The woman then thanks her beloved dog with a huge hug.
