This is the viral moment three people repeatedly fire a gun in the air to celebrate the new year leading to the arrest of at least one of them.
The incident was filmed in the city of Chiquimula in the south-eastern Guatemalan department of the same name, and the video was shared on Facebook where it went viral with over 2.4 million views.
The video shows a man and two women repeatedly shooting a gun in the air during a New Year’s celebration.
The man in the footage has been identified as Jorge Luis Osorio Reyes, 30, a National Defence General Staff specialist who has reportedly been arrested.
Meanwhile, netizens named the women as Glenda Guerra and Genesis Guerra, although it is unclear whether they have been arrested as well.
Netizen ‘Melvin Molina’ commented: “I imagine they are already in jail.”
‘Daysi Martinez’ wrote: “Such irresponsible people.”
The investigation continues.
According to local media, at least one person was killed while 19 others were injured by stray bullets in Mexico over the new year period.
On New Year’s Eve in the in the municipality of Irapuato in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, a mother had a near escape when a stray bullet penetrated her finger while she was ushering her child indoors as revellers fired their guns in the air.
Mexican resident Carmen Robles Ramirez will undergo surgery on her finger after it was shot by a stray bullet which was later removed by hospital medics, according to reports.
Her husband Abraham said there were multiple shootings in the area on New Year’s Eve and the incident happened when the couple were ushering their children inside the house.
