This viral video seen by over 6 million people shows a group of women guzzling one-litre bottles of beer as part of a mum’s-only drinking contest – to win a food blender.

The incident took place at the Jose Vascondelos High School in the south-western Mexican state of Guerrero as part of the country’s Mother’s Day celebrations on 10th May.

The footage was posted on Facebook by ‘Memes Guerrero’ where it has been viewed 6.3 million times.

The video shows five mums drinking one-litre bottles of beer so that they can win a domestic appliance, reportedly a food liquidiser.

In the background, someone is heard egging them as another person, believed to be the school head, says: “They are very slow!”

According to local media, the mums had two minutes to down as much of the beer as they could.

As the judge counts down from 10 to one, the woman in the middle manages to finish the bottle and raises her arms in triumph.

Netizens had a lot to say about the viral video, with many criticising the school for organising such as “humiliating” contest.

Facebook user ‘Ubaldo Aguirre’ said: “They are promoting alcoholism, what lack of imagination.”

‘Samanta Rojas’ commented: “The problem here is that it was organised by a school. If I have alcohol at home, I am not going to take it to a church to drink. It is humiliating for their children.”

‘Lex de la Vega Pavon’ added: “I love bottled beer, but this seems out of place.”
