This is the viral moment an 81-year-old Croatian woman meets a black man for the first time and smiles broadly when she learns the African-American from Texas is married to her niece.

Accompanied with the caption “love knows no colour”, the video was shared on TikTok by netizen ‘Ivana Richey’ where it is has gone viral, receiving 222,000 ‘likes’ and thousands of comments.

Ivana was introducing her American husband Joshua to her 81-year-old grandmother in the small village of Blato on the Croatian island of Korcula.

She wrote: “My grandmother saw a black person for the first time in her life.”

Ivana, who lives in Dallas in the US with Joshua, told Central European News (CEN): “She had never seen a black person in her life because she was involved in an accident that hurt her leg badly and she doesn’t get out much.”

“She had seen black actors on TV etc, but I was the first person in the family to marry someone another race so it was all totally new for her.

As soon as she saw my husband, she loved him right away.”

Since meeting each other, Ivana said the pair chats regularly on FaceTime.

Joshua and Ivana Richey both work as inspirational speakers and life coaches in the US.

Ivana, who has Croatian roots and lived in Sweden for a while, has published five books on personal development.

Joshua and Ivana married just 55 days after meeting each other at a personal development workshop and they soon launched a successful business helping couples to make the right life choices.

During their recent visit to Croatia, Ivana posted a photo of the couple together alongside the message: “We accomplished so much as a married couple and business owners – we helped couples improve and save their marriages, and helped people enhance their lives.”
