This is the moment an elderly woman in a mobility scooter hogs the lane as she slowly edges along a busy street in rush hour traffic as the people in the car behind laugh hysterically.

The incident took place in the town of Hadano in the eastern Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa and was filmed by netizen ‘MuraOOO’ and shared on Twitter where it has been seen 1.3 million times.

In the footage, the OAP is seen creeping along the road as a long queue of traffic edges along the opposite lane.

In the car behind the mobility scooter, several occupants are heard laughing and joking at the situation.

One of them asks what the speedometer reads and the driver replies: “We are not going fast enough for it to register anything!”

At one point, a pedestrian walks past in the opposite direction and appears to be moving faster than the gran in the scooter.

According to local media, Japanese authorities have been encouraging people to stop riding bikes on the pavement, however mobility scooters are still allowed in pedestrian areas.

After the video went viral, netizens said that they have seen the elderly woman numerous times over the last few years and have also been stuck behind her on roads with no choice but to patiently wait.

Twitter users also praised the filming motorist for not beeping his horn or revving his engine to hurry the OAP.

Some netizens even commented on the gran’s calm demeanour with one user saying: “I hope I can be like her someday!”
