This touching video shows a young boy in China giving a surgical mask to a homeless scrap collector who is busy rummaging through a bin.

The traffic camera footage from an as yet unidentified Chinese city shows the boy riding pillion on what appears to be an older sibling’s scooter when the pair stop by the bin on the street corner.

The boy and his brother are wearing a mask during the novel coronavirus outbreak but as he hands the man described in local media as a homeless person a bottle which he can sell to a recycling plant, he notices that the scrap collector does not have a mask and is at risk of potentially contracting the killer virus now known as COVID-19.

Despite his brother’s protests, the boy grabs a mask from their packet and hands it to the scrap collector.

The child then helps the man put on the mask and acknowledges his thanks before riding away again.

Chinese social media users have been moved by the gesture.

On Weibo, China’s equivalent to Twitter, the hashtag ‘boy gives scrap collector a mask’ had received 150 million views at the time of writing with the video being viewed 13 million times.
