This is the ultra-scan footage shared by doctors showing a 12-week-old foetus propelling itself around its mother’s womb using its legs as if it were performing squat thrusts.

The incident was filmed at the Moleet Medical Unit in the municipality of Zapopanin the western Mexican state of Jalisco during the unnamed mother’s 12th week of pregnancy and was later shared on Facebook by netizen ‘Alejandro Acosta Aguilar’ where it is going viral with 542,000 views.

The video was shared with the message: “Look at the incredible thing I saw at the clinic today. A 12-week-old foetus playing in its mother’s womb. Amazing!”

In the ultra-scan footage, the foetus is seen using its legs to propel itself around the womb as if it is performing squat thrusts.

The clinic’s Obstetrical Gynecologist Alejandro Acosta Aguilar said: “The baby is already moving a lot and it was a surprise that it was so coordinated and repetitive.

“The foetus is too underdeveloped to have hiccups, the movement is coming from its legs. When they have hiccups, the movement comes from the diaphragm.”

He told Central European News (CEN) that the 21-year-old mother, who does not want to be named, is in her second pregnancy.

He added to CEN: “The ultrasound was done in the first three months where evidence for diseases such as Down Syndrome or genetic problems are checked, but in the case of this baby, nothing was found, and fortunately everything is going well.”

Netizen ‘Carrizales Leanna’ said: “At the moment, the baby seems very happy, I hope it continues to develop in this way.”

‘Iballa Ruiz Quintana’ commented: “As a mother-of-two, I can tell you to not worry as it is completely normal for a foetus to move around like this.”
