This is the shocking moment a violent suspect savagely stabs a police officer repeatedly with a self-made knife while trying to escape from a court.

The Investigative Committee of Russia said Ivan Kostyukov, 49, tried to escape from the Proletarsky District Court in the city of Rostov-on-Don in the western Russian region of Rostov Oblast on 8th June.

The crook – due to face trial for “serious crimes” that day – had asked for a toilet break, said police.

But horrific video footage of the drama shows Kostyukov flying at the police officer escorting him with the knife as he opens a barred door.

As he drives the terrified officer back, he slips to the ground, where merciless Kostyukov stabs him 15 times in the neck and back.

The security CCTV footage shows the knifeman taking and cocking the officer’s handgun before leaving him for dead in a pool of blood.

Another officer is understood to have suffered gunshot injuries before Kostyukov was recaptured trying to climb through a window.

Astonishingly, the stabbed police officer survived the attack.

The Investigative Committee said in a statement on 8th June: “The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Rostov Oblast initiated a criminal case against 49-year-old local resident Ivan Kostyukov on suspicion of committing crimes under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (endangering the life of a law enforcement officer), and Art. 295 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (endangering the life of a person administering justice and preliminary investigation).

“According to the investigation, on June 8, 2022, Kostyukov, accused of committing especially serious crimes, was taken under escort to the building of the Proletarsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don to take the stand in the court session.

“Having asked the escorting police officer to escort him to the toilet, using a sharp metal weapon, he inflicted stab wounds on him and took possession of his service weapon.

“While trying to escape, the attacker fired several shots at a guard, but was quickly detained by law enforcement officers.

“The victims were taken to a medical facility, where they are receiving necessary medical care.

“Investigators and criminologists of the investigative department are currently working at the crime scene. All the circumstances of the committed crimes have been established.”

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
