This is the moment a group of villagers try in vain to put out a burning glider which has crashed into a rapeseed oil field leaving the two people on board dead.

The accident happened as motor glider pilot Wang Yong, 31, and his female passenger Zhan Yi, 20, were test-flying their company’s newest craft yesterday (17th March).

Mr Wang and Ms Zhan, who were both employed by Yunling Culture and Tourism Co Ltd, crash-landed in a blooming rapeseed oil field in the tourist town of Jiangwan, which is in Wuyuan County in East China’s Jiangxi Province.

Witnesses who rushed over to the site of the crash said the small two-seater aircraft caught fire after it plunged to the ground.

Villagers can be seen surrounding the motor glider and trying in vain to douse flames, with some trying to put out the fire using nearby rapeseed plants.

A statement by the Jiangwan People’s Government shortly after the crash confirmed that both Mr Wang and Ms Zhan had been declared dead at the scene of the accident, although it is currently unclear if they died on impact or if they burned to death.
