These stomach-churning images show the scene inside two Chinese restaurants that were closed down after inspectors alleged their filthy kitchens also suffered from rats and cockroaches.

Both of the restaurants are located in the colony el Soler in the city of Tijuana in the state of Baja California in north-western Mexico.

According to local media, ‘Kim Long’ and ‘China de Oro’ were inspected by local authorities who found what they described as a plague of rats and cockroaches in the kitchen as well as extremely dirty facilities in the cooking preparation area.

The footage shows corners of both kitchens full of insects crawling up the walls and scrambling out of the cracks on the wall.

At one point a cage – reportedly for rats – can be seen on camera in one of the kitchens.

The clip also shows the extreme dirt in the facilities of both restaurants.

According to the director of inspections in the municipality Adolfo Garcia Dworak the restaurants were selected randomly.

Reports said that local authorities closed the restaurants temporarily while the restaurant reportedly hung cards telling customers they had closed for problems with the power supply.

However, it is unclear when the restaurants are set to re-open and what measures will be required of them in order to facilitate this.
