Turkish vets have used 15 litres of olive oil to clean up a cat which had fallen into an oil tank and was totally covered in black grease.
The ginger cat was found in the neighbourhood of Izzetpasa in the eastern Turkish city of Elazig on 9th December.
According to the news site Bursahakimiyet, local residents heard strange sounds coming from an oil tank in the basement of an apartment building and called the local fire brigade.
Thankfully, firefighters were able to save the cat in time, extracting it from the tank and placing it in a cardboard box.
The photos show the cat totally covered in a slimy black substance.
According to reports, the cat was taken to the Elazig Municipality Animal Hospital where it took vet Vesile Tutcugil and her team two hours to clean the animal using 15 litres of olive oil.
Tutcugil said: “We had to wash the cat with olive oil. We started the clean-up immediately. Our intervention lasted about two hours and we used about 15 litres of olive oil. The general condition of the cat is good for now and the treatment will continue.”
Tutcugil stated that the cat started to scratch and bite them when they tried to clean it “because it is not aware that you are trying to do good”.
The vet added that they used anaesthesia to clean the greasy oil off the cat without further incident.
Tutcugil said: “We try to help the animals as much as we can. When we save them, it is the greatest feeling of joy and happiness.”
There is no further information as to whether the cat was a house pet or a stray.
