Veteran Undercover New York Drug Cop Becomes Postman In Germany After Marrying Love Of His Life

This veteran New York drug cop has become a postman in Germany after marrying the love of his life.

American native John, 39, used to fight crime on the streets of New York every day for 17 years before meeting his wife Marie, 41, in October 2016.

The ex-cop was dedicated to stopping crimes such as narcotics, prostitution, gambling, and the illegal sale of alcohol after graduating in 2002.

John explained that he used to work undercover to infiltrate drug gangs, adding: “I kind of became one of them during the night, pretending to deal drugs so I could track down the criminals and, ideally, arrest them.”

He added: “There are areas in some US metropolises where I would not dare to go without a gun, even in daylight.”

However, despite his family’s support to continue his life-threatening job, John revealed that he found it hard to meet a partner who would accept his job as he was not allowed to reveal details about his operations.

Then, six years ago he met Marie through mutual friends and he admitted that he was immediately smitten.

John said: “I met with some friends. They introduced me to Marie and she enchanted me! That smile and her resolute manners!”

The couple was involved in a long-distance relationship for a year before he decided to give up his dangerous job and move to the German city of Munich where he married Marie in 2017.

He said: “She’s my best friend, my better half and she accepted me as I am – with my job.”

After moving to Germany, and with the help of his mother-in-law, John started a new job as a letter sorter in the Deutsche Post DHL Group where he still works today.

He said: “I’ve been sorting mail in the Munich letter centre since 2018. Compared to back then, it feels like I’m on vacation.”

John, who hopes for a promotion after he improves his German proficiency, revealed: “My boss and co-workers are incredibly nice. And I enjoy not having to be on guard every moment of my working hours. It’s just fun. At the moment I can’t imagine a career in any other company than Deutsche Post.”

When asked about the cultural differences between the US and Germany, he said: “It was a big change for me. Here you have more privacy. In the US, people are much more open, for example talking about salaries in a relaxed manner. Even the fridge is practically public when there are visitors in the house.”

He continued: “People give you a leap of faith here, for example by first getting on the tram and then buying my ticket, which surprised me a lot. In the United States, they quickly arrest a person who behaves suspiciously.”

Despite admitting he misses his old job from time to time the ex-cop said: “I’m completely satisfied. I live according to the motto ‘Happy wife, happy life!’ and it’s worked well so far.”
