Venue Criticised For Ignoring Customers Death With Band Continuing To Perform As Paramedics Provide Help

This is the moment a woman suddenly falls ill at a party before dying with the band continuing to play and seemingly ignoring the tragedy that is unfolding before them.

Marina Gomes Vieira, 31, suddenly fell ill at her friend’s hen do in the city of Guarulhos in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on the night of Saturday, 21st August.

Footage filmed inside the venue shows the moment paramedics come to the woman’s assistance while the samba band still carries on playing on stage, despite the obvious consternation of those present.

Marina told her friends that she was not feeling well after drinking a beer and a tequila shot inside the club.

She then suffered a seizure, followed by a cardiac arrest. A nurse who happened to be at another table revived her twice before help arrived.

However, despite her being in obvious difficulty, the band failed to stop playing.

A club-goer who preferred to remain anonymous told reporters: “They did not have an onsite first-aider, no one to provide help, the samba continued, people drinking, waiters passing by, it was a scene of terror. What happened was depressing, something stupid.”

In the end, Marina’s friends had to call for an ambulance and she was taken to hospital, where she passed away.

A spokesperson for the Armazem Maya Gastro Bar later said in the venue’s defence that the band only played for “minutes” after Marina suddenly fell ill and that the musicians stopped playing when the seriousness of the situation became clear.

The spokesperson also said that a waiter offered first aid to Marina. However, the venue was still criticised for opening as normal the following day.

A post by one of Marina’s friends suggests she died following an episode of hypoglycaemia – a fall in blood sugar to levels below normal.

It is unclear if the police are investigating the incident.
