Valencia have revealed death threats were sent to the club’s president after he came to Salford City’s and Valencia owner Peter Lim’s defence.

After Valencia’s 2-1 victory at home against Alaves this past Saturday 5th October the club’s president Anil Murthy reportedly became the target of death threats from supporters of his own club.

Local media report the threats come after Valencia supporters started yelling chants against the club’s owner, Singaporean businessman Peter Lim, who also owns 40 percent of Salford City, sharing ownership of the League Two side with Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.

In defence of Lim, Murthy was seen putting his index finger across his lips as if silencing the crowd. It is unclear what the chants were.

Murthy posted on social media trying to explain the gesture.

His post read: “I want to clear up that the gesture from the balcony today only sought one thing: asking for calm and especially for the fans, who I respect to the maximum, to direct their efforts at helping the team achieve an important victory in a difficult time, a victory that belongs to all of us.”

The post came after Valencia released a statement that reported the threats.

The statement read: “The VCF legal department has made the grave threats, some of which were death threats, received in recent hours to the club president’s mobile available to the police for any possible legal consequences that may come from them.”

The messages have not been made public.

The fan’s frustration come after Peter Lim sacked former Valencia manager Marcelino Garcia Toral, 54, earlier this September which angered fans and players.

Before that, Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno was also almost transferred to Atletico Madrid which many supporters also rejected as Moreno is a key figure in the club’s attack.

There have been no reports of arrests and it is unclear if an investigation has been launched.
