US TV personality Dr Oz has filed a criminal complaint against his own sister for refusing to let him visit his sick mother in a stunt which has ended with the star’s sibling being locked up in a mental hospital.

Doctor Oz, real name Mehmet Oz, 59, who has dual Turkish-American citizenship, and his sister, former Google manager Seval Oz, who both live in the United States, have filed a criminal complaint against their other sister Nazlim Oz.

The siblings claim that their sister has threatened them and refuses to allow them to visit their ailing mother at their father’s house in the Sariyer district of the city of Istanbul.

Nazlim lives with their mother in the house and Mehmet Oz said: “She doesn’t allow us to visit our father’s house. She threatens us and offends us. My mother’s life is under risk since she lives with Nazlim Oz.”

After the claims were made the Istanbul Public Prosecution launched an investigation. In their statements to prosecutors, Mehmet and Seval Oz said that their mother was very old and that her mental health was not stable.

They reportedly added that their sister Nazlim Oz was a dangerous person and that she is a threat to their mother.

Dr Oz reportedly filed for a protection measure against his sister and Nazlim has now been found guilty of “offensive and threatening behaviour” by prosecutors.

The authorities have reportedly decided that Nazlim must be institutionalised in a mental health care centre.

Mehmet Oz was born in Ohio, in the US and is the son of famous Turkish heart surgeon Mustafa Oz, who died in February this year at the age of 94, and Suna Oz who lives in Istanbul with her daughter Nazlim Oz.

Mehmet is a heart surgeon who is popular in the US for his TV show ‘The Dr. Oz Show’ where he gives medical and healthy living advice.

He currently lives in New Jersey with his wife Lisa, with whom he has four children.
