This is the moment a 37-year-old man is airlifted from an American merchant ship after spending over 48 hours in the water when he fell overboard during a sea crossing.
The unnamed man from Costa Rica reportedly fell overboard during a crossing from his home country to Panama on 8th March when harsh weather hit.
No one on board noticed he had fallen over the side of the vessel, according to local media.
He spent over 48 hours in the water before being picked up by the American vessel that saw him by chance.
The man was spotted on Wednesday by a South Carolina merchant vessel that was positioned 47 nautical miles north of Cartagena Bay in Colombia.
The Colombian Army said the crew on the American vessel alerted them that they were in the area and had rescued the 37-year-old man, whose identity has been withheld by the local authorities.
A service helicopter then airlifted the patient, who displayed signs of hypothermia and dehydration, to the Bolivar Naval Base.
He was then transferred to the Cartagena Navy Hospital where he is still receiving treatment.
As well as showing symptoms of hypothermia and dehydration, the young Costa Rican man was also badly sunburned, according to reports.
Footage shows the moment the Colombian authorities airlift the patient off the American vessel and fly him to hospital.
